Tanzanias Ommy Dimpoz and Kenyan controversial singer Akothee have made their fans proud following the triumph victory at the AFRIMMA ceremony.
The much-anticipated awards ceremony went down on October 26 and 27 in Dallas, Texas,where the event was graced by different public figures and influential artist from different African countries.
The countdown to the 6th Annual African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) began after the releasing of the official list of nominees, where Akothee and Ommy Dimpoz were selected for the best East African female and male artist of the year respectively.
Among other female artist on a par with the Muje hit-maker for the Best East African female artist title were Vinka, Sheebah Karungi, Rema Namakula and Juliana Kanyomozi from Uganda, Victoria Kimani and Fena Gitu from Kenya, Vanessa Mdee and Nandy from Tanzania and Knowles Butera from Rwanda.
In the male catagory,Ommy Dimpoz battled it out with some of the most celebrated artist in East Africa among them being the WCB boss Diamond Platnumz, Ali Kiba, Harmonize, Rayvanny and Juma Jux from Tanzania, Nyashinski and Khaligraph Jones from Kenya, Eddy Kenzo from Uganda and The Ben from Rwanda.
Known for his major hits such as Yanje and Me And You, Ommy Dimpoz has struggled to be at the top following his ailment that saw a back flash in his music career in 2018.
Taking to social media, many have congratulated the two who have been seen to put in the work over the past few months.
The award ceremony is known to seek to create a platform that promotes the diversity of African music by bringing influential artists from for a night of celebration.
In the past, we have seen Kenyans take home the coveted awards in various categories. For instance, last year, Khaligrah Jones won the Best Rap Act of the Year, while Papa Dennis won Best Gospel Artiste of the Year.
