Let’s have a quick look at environmental matters after H.E the Governor Mike Sonko. launched the monthly cleanup exercise.
A.) The monthly cleanup exercise was launched in July 2018.
B.) Head of State President Uhuru Kenyatta joined Governor Mike Sonko for the exercise.
C.) Nairobi got a boost from international organizations like United Nations.
D.) A total of 500,000 trees have so far been planted in the 85 wards.
E.) A total of 803,500 tonnes of waste have so far been collected.
F.) A total of 21 bodies including 16 infants and 5 adults have so far been retrieved from the expansive Nairobi River.
G.) All these later resulted in massive beautification in the City.
H.) Recreational parks were revitalized.
WHY THE MONTHLY CLEANUP EXERCISE?
i.) To make Nairobi the cleanest city.
ii.) To reduce cases of communicable diseases.
iii.) To create employment for the youth.
ix.) To reduce the rate of crime in the city, and it’s environs.
x.) To create a conducive environment for business people.
xi.) To bring together players and partners in the environmental sector so as to witness the growth of and to ensure responsible population that understands the need to keep our environment clean. ‘My Waste, My Responsibility.’
xi.) Helped to open up accessibility to our estates through unclogging of sewer lines.
