The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) director general Zachary Mwangi on Monday released the National Census results at State House.

According to KNBS, the Kenyan population currently stands at 47,564,296 with women making up 50 percent of the population.

Census results show that 23 million persons are male, 24 million female and 1,524 being intersex.

According to Mr Mwangi, the most populous counties are Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kakamega and  Bungoma and the counties with least poppulation being Lamu, Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River and Taita Taveta.

The Census was conducted on the nights of August 24 and 25.
